2000th pet leaves for Australia
Sebastian Harrison - "I'm Keringa's two-thousandth pet to Oz!" Sebastian Harrison left Keringa-Petwings Australian Emigration Station on 21 January 2008. What makes Sebastian special is that he is the 2000th pet to leave Africa via Keringa-Petwings. New regulations in the protocol between South Africa and Australia are making it easier than ever for emigrants to take their pets with them. While many South Africans have left the country and sent their pets to virtually every country in the world via Keringa-Petwings Pet Transportation, most emigrants seem to prefer Australia. Pets board at the Emigration Station for up to six months in leafy surroundings, being exercised, and visited by the owners, staff, and resident veterinarian. Once they have completed their time with Keringa-Petwings they leave for quarantine stations in Perth, Sydney, or Melbourne for a minimum of one month. Dogs and cats fly in a special part of the hold, which is pressurized, and temperature controlled. Tanya Conradie, Pet Travel Consultant, recommends that owners send the pet's own blanket with him/her in the travel kennel to make sure they doze off just like at home. Dr S Harrison and family will soon be welcoming Sebastian in their new home. The Keringa-Petwings kennel master, Colin McNamara, remarked that apart from insisting on an extra piece of sushi every night, stardom has not affected Sebastian. Interesting facts:
